Cover Art

No air conditioning + a wandering mind = … designing the cover?

Coming up with the cover design for book one was a challenge in its own right. I wanted it to be unique – provocative. It needed to tell the audience that this story is spicy as well as hint at the grosser underlying message.

Queue my air conditioner going out one day.

TEN hours, I sat in my car with my pets, waiting for a handyman to come save the day. (He never showed. A lovely coworker’s husband did though!). I brought my iPad downstairs, downloaded Procreate, and got to doodling different ideas.

It was just supposed to be a simple illustration so I could hand it off to a professional for the “real deal.” But ten hours is a long time to fill. And by the end of it, I was surprised that I liked how far my own work had come!

So I smudged and liquified and eventually finished the cover all on my own! Here’s roughly 15 hours condensed down to a twelve second timelapse.

PHEW!
